From cars to robots to beer, some of the world's best products are made in Waterloo. Watch the video to see how our unique ecosystem sets us apart.

Waterloo Region is a thriving hub where technology and manufacturing come together to drive innovation.

Waterloo is known for being a leading tech hub. In fact, we have the third-highest concentration of tech workers in North America, according to CBRE. But what truly sets our ecosystem apart is how our expertise in tech drives growth in another key industry: manufacturing.

While tech often gets the spotlight, manufacturing continues to be an economic driver in our region. Our industry leadership dates back 150 years, and today, manufacturing accounts for one in every five jobs in our community. With more than 1,400 companies working in fields such as robotics, automotive, aerospace and food processing, Waterloo is where the future is being built.

Our reputation for innovation has attracted some of the world’s leading manufacturers. Major players, including ATS Corporation, Héroux Devtek and Toyota, have chosen to operate here, tapping into the region’s robust tech capabilities to enhance their manufacturing processes.

Our new video, “Waterloo: Where Manufacturing Meets Technology,” offers a glimpse into our unique ecosystem and the opportunities it offers. Showcasing the region’s collaborative spirit, the video highlights the high level of innovation and quality that characterizes manufacturing in Waterloo.

Add in talent and location

In addition to its unique manufacturing-tech intersection, Waterloo’s talent pool and strategic location make it an ideal location for manufacturing companies to grow.

Conestoga College, one of Canada’s largest polytechnic institutions, drives the local manufacturing workforce with its skilled trades programs. Meanwhile, the University of Waterloo, with its top-ranked engineering school and a globally renowned computer science program, propels innovation and commercialization.

Manufacturers in Waterloo access the world’s most comprehensive trade network, shipped through an extensive rail network and Canada’s largest airport, and are within a day’s drive of 187M consumers via Canada’s major superhighway and eight US border crossings.
