Residents in the Waterloo Region rank the quality of available education as a Top 5 positive influence on quality of life in the Region.

The Region's 147 elementary schools (Grades 1-8, provincial schools, publicly-funded French-language schools, private schools, and one special needs school), and 21 secondary schools (grades 9-12) are operated under both Public and Catholic School Board systems.

With the inclusion of a French language school system, heritage language programs, and an alternative school system, the Waterloo Region is able to offer customized, inclusive education for everyone.

Waterloo Region offers a highly educated workforce as it is home to three of Canada's most highly respected post-secondary institutions:  University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

In addition, the nearby University of Guelph, and 16 other post-secondary institutions lie within a one-hour radius of the Waterloo Region.
